Within it, an extraordinary concentration of red, blue, ochre, black, white and yellow forms appears compressed into a single enclosed space. Curving silhouettes, circular motifs and fragmented shapes overlap one another, creating the impression of contained energy struggling against the rational geometry of the cube.

The contrast is deliberate and compelling. The cube is stable, architectural and controlled; its contents are dense, animated and unpredictable. Several fragments appear to escape beyond its boundaries, subtly disrupting the apparent order of the composition and suggesting a tension between containment and freedom, structure and spontaneity.

The surrounding space reinforces this duality. A dark upper field creates a dramatic backdrop for the brilliant white construction, while the richly textured ochre ground anchors the composition. Against these comparatively restrained areas, the multitude of forms within the cube acquires an almost kinetic intensity.

Tony Zhuravel (Anatoly Zhuravel, b. 1963) is a Belarusian contemporary painter associated with the artistic environment of Vitebsk. His practice encompasses abstraction and figurative painting and is distinguished by bold chromatic relationships, layered surfaces and an interest in the interaction between structured forms and intuitive painterly expression.

Zhuravel became a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists in 1997 and has received several distinctions during his career, including Grand Prix awards connected with national exhibitions and competitions. His works are represented in public and private collections, including the National Art Museum of Belarus, and he has exhibited internationally.

The Cube demonstrates a particularly conceptual aspect of Zhuravel’s work. The image can be read purely as an exercise in colour, rhythm and geometry, yet the central motif also invites interpretation: a contained universe, an accumulation of ideas, figures or memories, or an ordered framework unable to fully restrain the vitality within it.

Created in 2011, the painting combines the visual language of geometric abstraction with Zhuravel’s characteristic appetite for saturated colour and complex pictorial rhythm. It is a work that changes with viewing distance — immediately graphic from across a room, yet increasingly intricate and playful when examined closely.

Acrylic on canvas, 2011.
65 × 70 cm.
Signed and dated lower right.
Original artwork.

Tony Zhuravel (b. 1963),

The Cube, 2011.

Acrylic on canvas, 65 × 70 cm.

Original artwork.

Signed and dated lower right.

[77
19
91,80,85,79,59,88,29,90,83,89,70,63,87,78,82
post-316","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_brand-tony-zhuravel","product_cat-paintings","product_tag-91","product_tag-abstract-art","product_tag-acrylic-on-canvas","product_tag-anatoly-zhuravel","product_tag-belarusian-art","product_tag-colourful-abstract","product_tag-contemporary-art","product_tag-contemporary-painting","product_tag-geometric-abstraction","product_tag-geometric-painting","product_tag-original-artwork","product_tag-signed-painting","product_tag-the-cube","product_tag-tony-zhuravel","product_tag-vitebsk-school","first","instock","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
