Ludo / Ludovico Cosma (1934-2013) was a French figurative painter known for his bold, emotionally charged and raw imagery. His painterly abstracted figures are typically isolated in glass or steel geometrical cages, set against flat, nondescript backgrounds.
Ludo took up painting in his early 50’sbut worked sporadically and uncertainly until his mid-60’s.
Sure of his ability, he drifted as a highly complex bon vivant, gambler and famous interior decorator, and designer of furniture, rugs and bathroom tiles.
He later admitted that his artistic career was delayed because he spent too long looking for subject matter that could sustain his interest.
In October 1971 Ludo met Francis Bacon in his exhibition in Grand Palais and became friend with him.
The show was the high point of Bacon’s career to date, and he was now described as Britain’s “greatest living painter”.
After, meeting its totally change the life of Ludo. They keep mutual friendship until Bacon’s death.
Ludo was for three years a student of Jean Even in Montparnasse. From 1966 to 1986 he participated in the Salon de la Marine, and then from 1988 to 1992 at the Salon of French Artists. Presents special exhibitions and many international exhibitions.
