Art description

BERNARD DRUET (1935-2012)

Dimensions: 42 cm x 34 cm with Frame / 16" x 13 " inches Framed.

A lovely drawing on paper by Bernard Druet the french painter who was influenced by the impressionists and exhibited in Paris at the Salons from 1966.

Bernard Druet was largely self-taught, he painted from the age of 17, benefitting from his artistic family background in the early part of his career and later, at end beginning of World War II, receiving some guidance from Bonnard. He settled in Paris in 1965 but also lived for a long time in the south of France, with which he retained close links.

At the beginning of his career, Druet was influenced by the Impressionists. His painting, which is marked by the characteristic light and pleasure of living in the south of France, blends a certain amount of innocence with humor and expresses itself most clearly when praising the satin flesh of beautiful girls, the joy of sunny landscapes, the cheerfulness of children with a look of surprise on their faces, and the peacefulness of Druet’s own street in Montmartre.

He took part in the following Paris exhibitions: the Salon de la Jeune Peinture, of which he was president in 1956, Salon des Moins de Trente Ans, Salon des Indépendants, Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps, Salon de l’École de Paris, and Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l’Eau. He also participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Paris, including: Portraits and Landscapes of Paris ( Paysages de Paris) (1952). He showed work abroad at the École de Paris exhibition in Frankfurt (1968) and Figurative Art in Japan (1973), among others. From 1971 onwards he exhibited in London and also held many solo exhibitions in Monte Carlo, Cannes, Dublin, Aix-en-Provence, Brussels, Montreal, Caracas, and frequently in Paris and St-Tropez.
