Marcel Peltier is a French painter and lithographer, born in Louviers on July 4, 1924, died in Darnétal on January 26, 1998.
Born in July 1924, Marcel Peltier was a student at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris from 1944 to 1946. After a stay of more than two years in hospital in Berck-sur-Mer where he befriended and worked painting with Charles Bonnard, another patient who was none other than Pierre Bonnard’s nephew, he resumed his studies, simultaneously with his first collective and personal exhibitions, attending the School of Fine Arts in Rouen from 1964 to 1970.
One of the major themes in the work of Marcel Peltier (whose lithographic part is produced in collaboration with Fernand Mourlot) remains Venice, as much by the views of the city as by its carnival, by “the characters of the commedia dell’ art that we see emerging during the carnival like unreal apparitions that challenge you, enigmatic or threatening, and where, fascinated, Peltier hides among the masks, the lace and the silk, all the anxieties of this world”.
