Painted in 1970, Geometric Forest is a striking modernist landscape in which the natural world is transformed into a rhythmic construction of angular forms, fragmented planes and saturated colour.

The composition presents a wooded landscape radically reorganised through geometry. Trees divide into sharply articulated branches, foliage becomes an accumulation of intersecting planes, and the surrounding terrain is reduced to broad areas of green, ochre, blue and black. Luminous yellow forms appearing between the trees introduce light into an otherwise highly structured environment.

The painting is particularly compelling for its tension between nature and geometry.

Its visual language reflects the continuing legacy of Cubism and Expressionism within post-war European modernism. The fractured treatment of space and angular construction recall Cubist principles, while the heightened palette and dramatic contrasts introduce a distinctly expressive character. The result is not simply an imitation of an earlier movement, but a confident interpretation of modernist ideas at the beginning of the 1970s.

The painting bears the distinctive signature “V. LdeC” together with the date 1970 in the lower right corner.
