Ado Lill
(1932 - 2018)

Ado Lill (18 July 1932 Räpina – 21 December 2018 Tallinn) was an Estonian painter and graphic artist, self-taught as an artist. Ado Lill studied law at the University of Tartu from 1952 to 1957, worked as a lawyer (including at the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR) and since 1988 has been a freelance artist. Lill began creating abstract paintings in the 1960s and became a leading abstract expressionist in the 1980s. In the early 2000s, he turned to figurativeism. The main subject matter of her paintings was an erotic and ambiguous female act, inspired by the works of the exclusivity of 19th-century actors and the poetry of the poet Pierre Louÿs, who was active during the same period. Flower works are characterized by excellent color perception and vigorous coloring. Floral graphics are divided into two: grotesque and critical allegories of society, and erotic works with pornographic elements. For decades, he cultivated action drawing. Lill was a member of the Estonian Artists ‘Association in 1988 and a member of the Estonian Painters’ Union in 1992.
